David van Nunen

Australian Artist (b. 1952)

A colourist working in the plein air (outdoor) painting tradition, artist David van Nunen is well known for vivid, evocative images of Sydney Harbour and its foreshores. He is known also for depictions of Australia's wilderness areas and national parks.

The stylistic complexity and depth of allusion in his art prompted eminent Australian critic, Elwyn Lynn, to write of the artist as "a major force in his confrontation of reality with abstraction."

The lush vegetation of the rainforest is a recurrent theme in the artist’s imagery. This inaugural collaboration between David and I in 2009 is a typically Australian image of bush. It is gutsy and bold in both colour and texture.
