Salvatore Gerardi

Australian artist (b. 1964)

Artist Salvatore Gerardi began his art practice as a printmaker. He continues to make his own intaglio prints. In 2009 Salvatore collaborated with me on this large scale diptych – 2 prints created to hang side by side. He wanted to extend his printmaking practice.

Symbolic and literal

The line Salvatore uses in the print is both symbolic and literal. The line maps an experience or journey from memory. A sense of place. The subtle textures of the colloblock print medium is well suited to Salvatore’s work. Texture implies a history of surface that can be interpreted in a variety of ways.
