Artist David Larwill is one of the most important and distinctive mid-career artists in Australia.
The prints we worked on in 2004 are direct, naive and simplistic. David represents his feelings, moods and expressions in each print through an innocent façade of vibrant, tribal-like figures, and intense colour. The colour is characteristic of colloblock prints.
These prints bring to mind graffiti, child art, and tribal art. They are powerful, engaging and playful.
As the founder of the ROAR Studios in the early 1980s, David Larwill and his contemporaries broke away from the established gallery system. They sought to reinvent painting and produce an expressive style of art.
